UM Student-Athletes Have Record Breaking Semester

Coral Gables, Fla. (www. hurricanesports.com) – – University of Miami student-athletes recorded a collective 2.90 grade point average for the fall 2006 semester, the best GPA performance for a semester in school history. That performance also brought up the cumulative GPA of current student-athletes to 2.90 which is also the best in school history.
The previous best performance for a semester was 2.87 during the 2003 school year while the prior record for overall cumulative grade point average was 2.88 achieved after the fall semester of 2002.
“We are all very proud of the student-athlete’s fall results,” said UM Director of AthleticsPaul Dee. “Their performance is a reflection of the recognition of the importance of academics by the student-athletes, the academic support staff and the individual sport coaches.”
Among the highlights of the fall semester were:
Seven student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 grade average
9 of UM’s 17 varsity sports had team grade point averages over 3.0
45% of all student-athletes had at least a 3.0 grade point average
Baseball recorded its all-time best semester grade point
Men’s basketball, football and women’s rowing had their all-time best fall semester GPAs.
