Swimming and Diving Defeat Florida International

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming and diving team hosted Florida International for their first dual meet at home of the 2007 season at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. The Hurricanes swept the Golden Panthers 156-60 advancing to a 3-4 overall record.
Freshman Kelly Peloquin came away with three first place finishes, while rookie Britta Boesing and senior Tara Erwin finished the day with two first place wins apiece.
Peloquin dominated the 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke. Her first win of the day came when she clocked in at 24.82 in the 50 yard freestyle. In her second event, the Baltimore, Md. native posted a personal best 54.24 in the 100 yard freestyle. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Peloquin touched the wall at 1:05.68.
The 200 yard Individual Medley (IM) and the 100 yard backstroke was led by Boesing as she finished 2:06.81 and 57.70 respectively. Erwin clocked in at 10:20.59 in the 1000 yard freestyle for her first event of the day and posted a time of 5:09.26 in the 500 yard freestyle.
As a team, the Hurricanes jumped out on top taking first and second place in the 200 yard medley relay clocking in at 1:49.92 and 1:51.74 respectively. Miami also took the number one and number two spot in the 200 yard freestyle relay finishing in with a time of 1:43.66 for first place followed by a 1:44.43 finish for second place.
In women’s diving, junior Jenna Dreyer led the Hurricanes in both the three meter and one meter diving competitions. Dreyer posted a score of 314.10 in the three meter. She registered a season best in the one meter capturing a score of 319.88.
The Hurricanes are back in action next weekend as they take on Florida Atlantic Saturday, February 3. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
