Jan. 22, 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman center Dwayne Collins was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week as it was announced Monday by the ACC offices.

In a week in which Miami lost its fourth front court player with a season-ending injury, Collins, who shared the weekly honor with Duke’s Jon Scheyer, stepped up to average 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in road games at Boston College and Florida State.

On Tuesday against one of the ACC’s top defenses, Collins turned in a career-best 24 points with 13 rebounds at Boston College. His 24 points marked the highest scoring out-put by a Hurricane freshman since former UM standout Darius Rice registered a 28-point outing against Villanova Feb. 17, 2001.

On Saturday at Florida State, Collins finished with 12 points while playing all but seven minutes against the Seminoles.

Collins and the Hurricanes play host to Virginia Tech Tuesday night at the BankUnited Center at 9 p.m. For ticket information, please contact the Hurricane Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-CANES or online at www.hurricanesports.com.
