Hurricanes Head To ACC Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to the University of Virginia for the ACC Cross Country Championships this Saturday, October 28 at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
The women’s 6K race will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will feature six teams ranked in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA poll including No. 2 NC State, No. 14 Florida State, No. 16 Duke, No. 25 Virginia, No. 28 Boston College and No. 29 Virginia Tech.
Miami is led by junior Delia Phlatts (Silver Spring, Md.) who has been the Hurricanes top finisher at all four races this season. Phlatts has recorded two top-10s this season, and recorded a personal best time of 18:28.24 over five kilometers at the Auburn Invitational on Sept. 30.
The men’s 8K race is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. and boasts three teams currently ranked by the USTFCCCA. Florida State enters the event ranked No. 8 in the nation followed by No. 9 NC State and No. 29 Virginia.
The Hurricane men, who have been ranked as high as 11th in the South Region by the USTFCCCA, have been led this season by the duo of senior Jon Scheiner (Katy, Texas) and sophomore Andrew Chuplis (Winter Park, Fla.).
Scheiner has been Miami’s top finisher at two events including the Auburn Invitational where he recorded a time of 24:57.77 over eight kilometers, the third fastest time in school history over that distance.
Chuplis has been the Hurricanes’ top finisher at the other two events including a second-place overall finish at the NSU Sharks Invitational to open the season.
