Hurricanes Prepare to Take On Duke

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami Hurricanes will face Duke University Friday Evening at the Knight Sports Complex at 7:00p.m. Miami is currently eighth in the ACC, while Duke (16-2, 9-0 ACC) sits first in the League.
The Hurricanes look to continue their competitive edge against the Blue Devils, as they did taking down the Seminoles of Florida State down two games to nothing, to come off with a 3-2 win.
Junior middle blocker Ciara Michel was just shy of 12 kills before she eclipsed her career high of 209 kills by posting a total of 13 against the Seminoles. She led the team with four total blocks.
Senior outside hitter Frannie Savage led with 18 kills and posted six digs, while Jill Robinson registered a match high and personal best 58 assists.
Ann Gallo led with 11 digs, followed by freshman libero Cassie Loessberg with eight on defense.
As a team, the Hurricanes posted 51 total digs and 63 total kills. Miami had a hitting percentage of .206 and tallied 13 total blocks.
Duke is 26-5 in its last 31 ACC matches dating back to last year. The Blue Devils are led by jumior Carrie DeMange with 240 kills, and ranks second in the league with a 4.07 average. DeMange has 1,151 career kills and needs 152 more to move into a tie for fifth place on Duke’s all-time career kills list.
Junior Ali Hausfeld leads with 756 assists and a 13.03 kills per game average. She set the Duke record for most assists in a season with 1,590 assists in 2005.
Defensively, Jenny Shull has a total of 341 digs and leads al ACC players, ranked first with a 5.68 average. DeMange also leads in blocks with 66 total. She has 15 block solos and 51 block assists.
Senior Tealle Hunkus surpassed the 1,000-career digs plateau with 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Virginia, and now has 1,043. She needs eight more kills to reach the 1,000-career kills mark.
As a team, the Blue Devils have 1,020 total kills with a 17.0 (17.0 per game), 945 assists (15.8 per game), 1208 digs (20.1 per game), and 158 blocks (2.6 per game).
The Hurricanes will return back to the Knight Sports Complex Sunday afternoon to take on ACC foe Wake Forest. The match will begin at 12:00 p.m.
