Hurricane Volleyball Set to Open ACC Play at Home

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s volleyball team will commence their ACC play at home against state rival, Florida State Tuesday Sept.19 at 8 p.m. at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes head toward their ACC action with a 3-6 overall record after coming away from a tough loss at the Hurricane Invitational posting a 1-2 match record. After losing to Florida A&M Friday evening 2-3, Miami defeated the Dolphins of Jacksonville University 3-0, however, before losing to Loyola Marymount in three games Saturday evening.
Leading the Hurricanes in attacks is senior Francheska Savage with a total of 136 kills, 3.89 per game placing her fourth in the ACC. She also places third in the conference with an average of 4.64 points per game. Over the weekend, Savage posted a career high 29 kills for the first home game of the season at the sixth annual Hurricane Invitational against Florida A&M.
Senior Setter Jill Robinson leads the team with 332 assists placing eighth in the ACC with a 9.76 average per game, while senior defensive setter Ann Gallo, finishing strong last weekend in digs against Florida A&M, Jacksonville University and Loyola Marymount with 19, seven, and 10 respectively, leads with 111 digs (3.17 per game). Placing seventh in the ACC in blocks, Ciara Michel is averaging 1.29 per game.
The Hurricanes will continue at home on Friday Sept. 22 as they take on ACC opponent Boston College. Game time starts at 8 p.m. at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Seminoles (6-3, 0-0 ACC) head to Coral Gables after losing three out of four games to No.6 Florida Gators. As a team, FSU averages a .298 hitting percentage led by senior middle blocker Sarah Griffin with 101 kills this season and a 3.26 per game average, and senior setter Zrinka Tomic with an 11.30 assist average. The Seminole squad returns this season with three letterwinners and eight newcomers.
