Charles, Lathan Named To USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami juniors Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) and Akera Lathan (Miami Southridge) have both been named to the 2006 Division I USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Track and Field team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in her event.
Charles, who graduated this May with a degree in Psychology, won the 2006 NCAA National Championship in the triple jump, capping a season in which she won a total of five major events.
The Canadian National record holder also won titles at the Diet Pepsi Invitational, Texas Relays, ACC Championships and Penn Relays this past season.
Lathan, a Business major, won two event titles in the shot put in 2006. She earned All-ACC honors placing second at the ACC Outdoor Championships and was an at-large selection for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
