Miami Wraps up Competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – Led by senior All-American Dominique Darden’s first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, members of the second-ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team wrapped up the second and final day of competition of the Georgia Tech Invitational in impressive fashion, recording four automatic NCAA Regional qualifying marks.

Darden’s first-place finish in 56.02 seconds highlighted a UM weekend that saw the Hurricanes finish in the top five six different events, including two second-place finishes.

In the 800 meters junior Ginou Etienne placed second with a time of 2:07.82 while junior Tabia Charles finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.09 meters, both of which were NCAA Regional marks. Charles was only slightly edged out by Georgia Tech’s Brandy Depland who won with a jump of 13.09 meters.

Junior Amy Seward earned an NCAA Regional qualifying time with a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters, crossing 23.91 seconds.

After finishing eighth among the collegiate competitors in the 100-meter hurdle prelims with an NCAA Regional time of 13.90 seconds, freshman Pavi’Elle James placed fifth in the finals with a time of 13.98.
