Bounds barely missed finals when she finished 10th in the preliminaries with a score of 253.15. She was the second alternate for finals.
The Austin, Texas native was also named Honorable Mention All-American Friday after finishing 12th on the 3-meter.
The top eight finishers from the morning’s preliminaries advance to the evening’s finals. Student-athletes who finish among the top eight are named All-American. Those who place anywhere from ninth to 16th place are designated All-America Honorable Mention.
“Heather missed her first dive in the prelims but finished strong barely missing finals,” said head coach Randy Ableman. “She had a great week and was named All-American in the event though our goal was to get to the final.”
“She was disappointed but hopefully she’ll bounce back with a great performance at a big national meet, the US Open, which is a month from now.”
UM’s lone male diver, junior Derek Starks, will compete in the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships that begins Thursday, March 23 and runs through Saturday, March 25.
