Athletes earned distinction from their weekend performances
<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Several women’s track and field athletes earned all-ACC honors for their performances at the ACC Indoor Championships. The Hurricanes were led by Tabia Charles, Ginou Etienne, and Charlette Greggs, who each earned two all-ACC accolades.
Charles won the triple jump, and placed second in the long jump, breaking her own school record at the ACC Indoor Championships. Both of her jumps were NCAA automatic qualifying standards.
Greggs placed second in the 200 meter dash, running an NCAA provisional time, and was a member of the ACC Indoor Championship record breaking 4×400 meter relay.
Etienne, in an NCAA provisional time, placed second in the 400 meter dash and was also a member of the 4×400 meter relay. Ena Leufroy and Krista Simkins were the other members of that relay, to earn their all-ACC honor.
Other athletes to earn the distinction include Viktoria Andonova (3rd, High Jump), Chinela Davis (3rd, 60m), Dominique Darden (3rd, 200m), Brenda Faluade (3rd, Triple Jump), India Ransom (2nd, 60m), Amy Seward (2nd, Pentathlon), and Khadija Talley (3rd, Shot Put). Davis, Darden, Faluade, Ransom and Seward all posted NCAA provisional marks in their respective events.
The Hurricanes are next slated to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships held March 10-11, in Fayetteville, Ark.
