Diaz, Hite Named First Team All-District

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami guards Robert Hite (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Guillermo Diaz (Carolina, P.R.) were both named first-team All-District 6 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Thursday marking the first time in school-history the Hurricanes have had two players named to the first-team in the same season.

Joining Diaz and Hite on the first team are Al Thornton (FSU), Taureen Green (Florida) and Jermareo Davidson (Alabama).

Diaz, who was also a first-team All-District selection last season, becomes just the third player in Miami history to earn first-team honors in back-to-back seasons joining Tim James (1998, 1999) and Darius Rice (2002, 2003, 2004).

Diaz, a junior, was a preseason first-team All-ACC selection and currently leads the team in scoring at 17.3 points per game. He ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring, is among the league leaders in free throw percentage (.805), three-point field goals made (2.33), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.40) and minutes played (35.00). Diaz has scored in double-figures in 24 of 27 games this season including a team-high eight 20-point performances.

Hite, a senior, makes the All-District team for the first time. He ranks second on the team in scoring (16.3 ppg), is third in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and leads the team in steals (1.52).

Hite has also scored in double-figures in 24 of the Hurricanes’ 27 games including seven 20-point games. He scored a team season-high 31 points against Florida State on January 29.

Hite currently ranks sixth on UM’s career scoring list with 1,599 points, is third in three-point field goals (207), is fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.380) and second in career free-throw percentage (.852).
