Hurricanes Host NC State and Northwestern Friday

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla.– The University of Miami swimming and diving team will welcome NC State and Northwestern to the Norman Whitten Student Union pool Friday at 3:00 p.m. for a relay meet. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Friday’s meet marks the first competition for the Miami swimmers since the Georgia Tech Invitational on Dec. 4.
The Hurricanes (0-3, 0-2 ACC) are led by freshman sensation Christine Zwiegers who is ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference in both the 50-freestyle and the 100-butterfly, where she fourth with a time of 55.74. Junior Andrea Hughes is also ranked among the top 10 in the 100-butterfly.
Both NC State (3-3, 1-3 ACC) and Northwestern (2-3) will head to Coral Gables following losses. The Wolfpack dropped a 201-99 decision to then No. 21 North Carolina on Nov. 30 while the Wildcats fell to No. 18 Indiana 159-141 on Dec. 2.
Miami rescheduled its meet against Florida International that was originally slated for Oct. 22 but postponed due to Hurricane Wilma. The Hurricanes will now compete against the Golden Panthers Monday, Jan. 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the BayVistaAquaticCenter on the Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU.
