Johnson, Savage Named All-ACC Selections

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami senior Karla Johnson and redshirt junior Francheska Savage were named as First- and Second-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections, respectively, it was announced Tuesday. A total of 18 players, selected by the conference’s 12 head coaches, were named as First- and Second-Team All-ACC. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Miami, alongside Duke and Georgia Tech, placed two members on the All-Conference Teams.  North Carolina and Maryland led the league with three selections apiece, while BostonCollege, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Virginia and WakeForest rounded out the teams with one selection each.

 

Johnson, an outside hitter, was tabbed to the All-ACC First Team after finishing the season ranked first in the league with 5.09 kills per game, a position she held all season. The Houston, Texas native capped her career at Miami by becoming UM’s all-time leader in career kills with 1,484. Johnson, who was a Preseason All-ACC Selection, was also named to the Hurricane Invitational and Orange & Green Challenge All-Tournament teams.

 

Savage, a middle blocker, was an All-ACC Second Team selection after closing the season ranked seventh in the league in both hitting percentage (.307) and kills per game (3.99). The Ft.Myers, Fla. native was named ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 17th and was also named to the Hurricane Invitational All-Tournament team.

 

The Hurricanes finished the season tied for sixth in the ACC Standings, alongside Florida State, with an 11-11 record and a 16-14 overall mark.
