Schultz Finishes 153rd At NCAA Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) finished 153rd out of 253 competitors at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
Schultz completed the six kilometer course in a time of 21:37.9.
Schultz, who is the first Hurricane to compete at the NCAA Championships, qualified for the event with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA South Region Championships, November 12, in Gainesville, Fla.
Schultz, who came to Miami as a walk-on four years ago, completes her collegiate cross country career having established herself as the greatest cross country runner in school-history.
Schultz has been the Hurricanes top finisher in 18 consecutive cross country races, and at this year’s ACC Cross Country Championships she finished 15th with a time of 19:56.1, becoming the first Hurricane woman to run a sub-20 minute time over six kilometers.
Miami’s track and field team opens its 2006 indoor season on January 15 at the Florida Intercollegiate in Gainesville, Fla.
