CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Guillermo Diaz and Robert Hite both scored a game-high 16 points as Miami defeated Morgan State 83-51 on Saturday in the Hurricanes’ regular-season home opener.
Anthony King added 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds for Miami (3-1). Timothy Berkley, Timothy Mathis and Andrew Lee each had 10 points to lead the winless Bears (0-4).
Hite was 7-of-11 in the game and had 13 second-half points. Diaz made 6-of-10 had 11 second half points as Miami outscored Morgan State 47-25 in the second half to extend a 36-26 lead at halftime.
Miami shot 58.6 percent in the second half while Morgan State made only 38.8 percent of its second-half shots.
Two steals by Hite helped spark big runs for the Hurricanes.
Early in the second half, Hite stole the ball from Andrew Lee, dribbled it down court and dunked it to help spark an 8-0 run that gave Miami a 46-26 lead with 16:59 remaining.
Hite then stole the ball from Joseph McLean with 9:52 remaining in the game it and dribbled down for a fast-break dunk to help give Miami a 59-40 lead. From that point, the Hurricanes outscored the Bears 24-11 to close out the game.
