Schultz Places 25th At Chile Pepper Invitational

Fayetteville, Ark. (hurricanesports.com) – Senior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) completed the six kilometer course in a career-best time of 21:29.4 to finish 25th at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Schultz has now been the Hurricanes top finisher in last 15 races in which she has competed over the last three seasons.
Miami recorded 639 points to finish 24th out of 38 teams. Oklahoma State (64 points) won the team title.
Sophomore DeeDee Phlatts (Silver Spring, Md.), Miami’s top finisher at last weekend’s Disney Cross Country Classic, finished 158th in a time of 23:49.9. Freshman Melissa Hornor (Columbus, Ohio) placed 177th (24:13.3) while freshman Ena Leufroy (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 180th (24:20.2). Rounding out the Hurricanes’ scoring was junior Allison McElhaney (Jacksonville, Fla.) who finished 196th (24:42.3).
The Chile Pepper Invitational is the final tune-up for the Hurricanes before the ACC Cross Country Championships, October 31, in Tallahassee, Fla.
