Moderator: Good afternoon. Thanks for joining us. Kyle Wright, UM’s starting quarterback for 2005, is here to answer all your questions about Hurricane football.
David (Tampa): Kyle – It is good to have you behind center on gameday. What are you doing to prepare for the hostile environment of Doak Campbell Stadium? Tough place to start your first game!!!!!! |
|
Kyle Wright: It’s a hostile environment and there’s not much you can do to prepare for that situation. We just have to concentrate on our game plan and go out and execute to take the crowd out of the game.
Albert (CC, TX): Hey Kyle whats up man? The defense is great and suppose to be the key for the team this year. How is the offense running and your development in the system as well? Good luck in the season.
Kyle Wright: I feel like I’ve come a long way since my freshman year. I feel that my understanding of the offense is very good right now. If we can balance out the offense and the defense this season, no one should be able to stop us.
Matt C.: If you could compare yourself to any other ncaa quarteback which would it be
Kyle Wright: I try not to compare myself to other quarterbacks and I really don’t look into those things too much. I would rather carve my own niche.
Dave (Knoxville): What are your expectations for your first year as a starter? What do you think about the backfield situation this year?
Kyle Wright: If we go out and play like we should, I don’t feel like anyone can’t beat us. If we go out and minimize our mistakes and execute, we should be fine. As for the backfield, they’re all talented at running the ball. What’s going to separate them from one another is how they pick up the blitz.
Kathryn Dow (Miami): I’m the girl with the first #16 jeresy. I was wondering how much film you watch before a big game like flordia state and are you starting to get some butterflies about your first start?
Kathryn Dow (Miami): I’m the girl with the first #16 jeresy. I was wondering how much film you watch before a big game like flordia state and are you starting to get some butterflies about your first start?
Kyle Wright: Hey, how’s it going? I remember you. I think you just got a#3 jersey, right? I try to watch as much film during my free time as I can. I’ve been here all morning watching film and you like to prepare as much as you can with the coaches for a game like this. As the game gets closer, you definitely start to get butterflies. There is a lot of anticipation for this game.
Adam (Naples): With excellent receivers like Sinorice Moss, Greg Olsen, Ryan Moore, and Lance Leggett, do you feel comfortable going up against an always strong Seminole secondary on September 5 – also, do you feel comfortable leaving the pocket and running the ball?
Kyle Wright: I definitely feel comfortable with the type of talent we have at wide receiver against any secondary in the country. I don’t feel like anyone can cover Sinorice, Greg, Ryan and Lance at the same time. Running out of the pocket is something that comes natural and it’s something I’ll do if I have to.
Jay Miller ( Miami, FL): To date, as a student athlete what is your most memorable experience/event at The U ?
Kyle Wright: I guess my first time I went on the field against Louisiana Tech. It was my first time playing in a college football game.
Josh (Youngstown, Ohio): Kyle,It’s my 28th birthday today, so hopefully you can answer this one for me. Which receiver or receivers if any do you have that QB/WR magic with?
Kyle Wright: Happy Birthday! I worked a lot with all the wide receivers this summer and I feel comfortable with all of them. But probably Greg, Sinorice, Ryan and Lance are the guys I feel most comfortable with.
Gary Masi (Greenwich CT): Those Fla St fans will be making a lot of noise when you are at the line of scrimmage to disrupt your play calling – have you practiced playing in a very loud environment & are you ready to meet that very loud challenge?
Kyle Wright: At practice they set up speakers and play the FSU warchant on volume 850 to try and create that chaotic atmosphere and help us stay focused and execute our plays. It’s loud when you call the play in the huddle, but once you get to the line of scrimmage, it’s almost silent because you’re so focused on what you’re doing.
Colin (Kansas City): Kyle, it’s great to see you a get a chance to start at Miami. What was your deciding factor in coming to the U? Good luck and beat the Seminoles!
Kyle Wright: I liked everything about Miami. I felt the most comfortable here and I felt like I was going to have the chance to play for a national championship.
Bill Zell, Aberdeen, NC: Kyle, I know the butterflies are starting to grow with FSU just around the corner. What will you do to get yourself mentally ready for such a big game right off the bat?
Kyle Wright: Definitely there is a feeling of anticipation for a challenge like this. The best thing to do is to get as mentally prepared as possible. When the time comes, you have to rely on the things you’ve practiced and the fundamentals. I try to stay relaxed and stay as normal as possible, so that my head is clear on game day.
Rod Orlovsky-Toms River, New Jersey: Kyle-First off… Congratulations on being the starting quarterback at the U. It seems lately I have been hearing/reading that the so-called experts feel Miami will have a solid defense but an unproven, inexperienced offense. How do you feel about that evaluation and do you and your teammates use those types of sentiments to “fuel your fire” for the upcoming season? Thanks Kyle and best of luck at FSU and for the rest of the season!
Kyle Wright: We have 10 starters coming back on defense. From the outside looking in, there are definitely some question marks on offense and some guys without a lot of experience. We feel confident that the guys we have at those positions can get the job done. You take it personal, but we have to go out and prove people wrong, no matter if we have a fifth-year senior starting at a position or a freshman.
Nick Carson (Omaha): Hi Cousin Kyle,Why did you change from #16 to #3? The whole family will be rooting for you and we love you!
Kyle Wright: I didn’t really like #16 and no quarterback at Miami has ever worn #3. Hopefully we can get you guys some #3 jerseys and thanks for your support!
Moderator: Thanks. We’ll take a couple more questions for Kyle.
Peter, NH: how settled is the offensive line?good luck Go Canes…
Kyle Wright: We had a couple of unfortunate injuries in camp but Andrew Bain has stepped in and done a good job for Tony Tella. Tony is back now and will give our line better depth. In fact, our starting offensive line this season has about the same amount of starting experience as last year’s line. I have a lot of confidence in them.
Gabriel-Miami: Who do you feel will step up on offense this season, apart from yourself? Go Canes!
Kyle Wright: I really think Greg Olsen is going to have a big year. He’s healthy now, he has a cast off his hand and he really does a good job getting open against the athletic corps of linebackers we have. I can’t imagine what he’ll do against teams that aren’t as athletic as our linebackers. He has great hands and he gets open, I’m going to look to get him the ball.
Moderator: Alright everyone, thanks for joining us today. Kyle has to get back to preparing for FSU.
Kyle Wright: I’m sorry I couldn’t answer everyone’s questions. I look forward to seeing everyone in Tallahassee. Thanks for the support.
