Three Former Hurricanes Competing At World Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Former University of Miami track and field stars Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.), Kimberli Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) and Davian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) will be competing at the IAAF World Track and Field Championship, August 6-14, in Helsinki, Finland.
Williams, the 2004 Olympic 100-meter silver medalist, will begin her quest for the World Championship with the first and quarterfinal rounds of the 100-meters on August 7. Williams will also be a member of the United States 4×100-meter relay pool.
Williams, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world by the IAAF, was a nine-time All-American and 2004 NCAA National Champion in the 100-meters as a member of the UM women’s track and field team from 2002-04.
Barrett will be competing for Jamaica in the shot put which begins on August 12. Barrett dominated the collegiate ranks this past season winning both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles.
Barrett, ranked 21st in world, won 12 of 13 collegiate events in 2005 including her final 10 competitions.
Clarke, who won two NCAA titles at Miami from 1995-98, is a member of the Jamaican 4×400-meter relay pool. Clarke is no stranger to international competition having competed in three Olympic Games. In 1996 he anchored Jamaica to the bronze medal in the 4×400-meter relay at the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Clarke enters the World Championships ranked sixth in the world in the 400-meters by the IAAF. Preliminary competition in the 4×400-meter relay begins August 13.
