CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – The University of Miami women’s volleyball team will report to campus on Wednesday, August 10th and are scheduled to begin their first practice of the 2005 season on August 11th.
“We are all very much looking forward to having our team back together including our incoming freshman in just two weeks,” said head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch. Many of our players are currently on campus, but it will be so nice to be able to work with them again. They have been working hard on their own this summer preparing for the season. Our staff has seen some glimpses of their hard work in brief camp demos, and it has only made us more excited to begin practices and our preparation for our competitive season ahead in the ACC.”

Lantagne Welch returns eight letterwinners, including four starters, from last season’s squad that posted a 17-9 overall record. The Hurricanes finished second in the final Atlantic Coast Conference standings after posting an 11-5 mark in their inaugural season in the league.
Miami will be led by senior outside hitter Karla Johnson, junior setter Jill Robinson and redshirt-junior middle blocker Frannie Savage. UM also welcomes newcomers Bridget Bomhack, Angelica Ellis, Lindsay Fletcher and Lauren Rinderknecht to the 2005 squad.
The Hurricanes will open the season with their Alumni Game on Saturday, August 27th at the Knight Sports Complex before they travel to the Houston Tournament, September 2-3, where they will face Arkansas State, Mississippi and Houston.
