Hurricanes Place 13th At NCAA East Regional

Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team recorded a final round 305 to finish 13th at the NCAA Women’s East Regional Golf Championship being held at the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

Miami was led by freshman Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines Weston) who posted her third consecutive round of 75 to finish in a tie for 33rd (75-75-75–225). Senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame), who played this weekend with a sprained left ankle, recorded a final round 73 to move up 20 places into a tie for 38th (75-79-73–227).

Sophomore Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) finished in a tie for 57th (77-75-78–230) while freshman Mandy Fricton (Merritt Island, Fla.) finished in a tie for 67th (76-75-81–232). Sophomore Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) ended the tournament tied for 91st (83-79-79–241).

Ohio State was the surprising team champion (285-280-291–856) holding off top-ranked Duke (292-283-287–862) by six strokes. Duke’s Anna Grzebien recorded a final round 67 to capture the individual championship by one stroke.
