May. 3, 2005
Greensboro, N.C. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem was named the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year Tuesday as voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
Deem, now in her fourteenth season at Miami, earns her first ACC Outdoor Coach of the Year honor after leading the University of Miami to the league championship in the Hurricanes inaugural outdoor season. The Hurricanes tallied 142 points and became just the fifth school to win the title in the championship’s 23-year history. Miami led all schools by capturing six individual event titles.
This marks the fifth consecutive Conference Outdoor Coach of the Year honor for Deem. Prior to joining the ACC this season Deem was named BIG EAST Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
Deem, who was named the ACC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year earlier this season, becomes just the second coach in ACC history to sweep both awards in the same season joining North Carolina’s Dennis Craddock. Craddock has swept both honors eight times.
