UM Track Travels To ACC Outdoor Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Tallahassee this weekend for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, April 21-23, at the Mike Long Track and Field Complex on the campus of Florida State University.
The Hurricane men will be led by All-ACC Indoor performer Tim Harris, Jr. Harris, the 2004 USATF Junior National Champion at 800-meters, ranks fifth in the ACC in the event this outdoor season. Miami’s 4×100-meter relay ranks fifth in the conference.
The eighth-ranked University of Miami women will look to sweep the ACC Track titles in their first season in the league. Miami captured the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship earlier this season becoming the first Hurricane team to win an ACC title in any sport.
The Hurricanes boast one the nation’s most balanced squads as 12 women have already recorded 21 NCAA regional qualifying marks in 10 individual events this outdoor season. In addition, both the 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay have qualified for NCAA Regional competition.
Miami has several women and two relays that rank atop the ACC performance lists heading into the conference meet. Junior All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) ranks No. 1 in the conference in the 200-meters (22.76), junior All-American Dominique Darden has the top mark in the 400-hurdles (56.78) and NCAA Indoor National Champion Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) ranked No. 1 in the ACC and the nation in the shot put (59-08.25). The women’s 4×100-meter relay (43.76) and 4×400-meter relay (3:32.25) have the top marks in the ACC this season.
