The Hurricanes defeated the alumni, which included former standouts Jamie Grass, Elizabeth Tyson, Marcella Gamarra Valeria Tipiana and Mallorey James, 3-1.

“This was a great way for us to finish the spring,” said head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch. “We played the best that we’ve played this whole semester and we really continued to show our improvements.”

“We passed by far the best that we have this spring. That was definitely anchored by both Kaitlin [Kozak] and Ann [Gallo], who carried the load there and did an exceptional job.”

Redshirt sophomore Frannie Savage closed the spring season on a wave of strong performances, “Frannie had great days attacking and blocking. She is a steady force for us.”

Sophomore setter Jill Robinson also finished the spring season on a strong note, “I thought Jill had a nice day mixing her choices and adding in her attacking as well.”

“We played against a lot of great players that have played here in a short period of time. I think that it’s exciting to see how well we played against the likes of Valeria, Marcella and Jamie, to name a few.”

“We are very pleased. We’re finishing our spring in a great place to head into the 2005 season,” concluded Lantagne Welch.

The Hurricanes will open the 2005 season on the road at the Houston Tournament where they will face Houston, Arkansas State and Ole Miss from Sept. 2-3.
