Senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) recorded her third individual victory of the season to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team to the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula’s Hotel and Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.
Miller recorded a final round 77 to finish the three day tournament with a six-over-par 222, one stroke better than UM sophomore Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) who finished second (72-75-76–223) despite playing all three-rounds with flu-like symptoms.
The win for Miller is her third of the season and seventh of her career. The three wins this season marks the most by a Hurricane since 1987-88 when Tracy Kerdyk recorded five tournament victories.
Overall the Hurricanes recorded a three day total of 912 to defeat South Florida and Florida State by one stroke. The victory marks Miami’s third win of the season and its first state championship since 1993.
Miami, ranked 42nd in the nation by Golfweek, will have a week off before heading to the ACC Women’s Golf Championships, April 15-17, in Charlotte, N.C.
