Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team moved into a tie for second with LSU in the latest Trackwire25 rankings released Tuesday.

The Hurricanes captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship this past weekend in convincing fashion. Miami won six of 17 events en route to 138 points. North Carolina finished a distant second with 100 points.

Senior Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) once again showed why she is one of the nation’s premier throwers winning the ACC title in shot put with a nation-leading toss of 18.19 meters (59-08.25). The win for Barrett was the third in four meets this season. Barrett, who also ranks fourth in the nation in the weight throw, placed second in the event at the ACC Championships earning All-ACC honors.

Miami’s corps of jumpers was also impressive this weekend taking four of the top-six spots in the long jump and three of the top-eight positions in the triple jump.

Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) captured the ACC long jump title and placed second in the triple jump showing the form that earned the sophomore All-America honors in both events at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

Sophomore All-American Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) placed fourth in both the long jump and triple jump, while fellow sophomore Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) also scored in both events placing sixth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump.

Senior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) , the nation’s second-ranked pentathlete, won the ACC pentathlon title with a conference record 4,028 points. Seward also scored in the pentathlon taking second with a career-best 3,697 points.

Miami’s group of sprinters also showed why they are one the nation’s elite. Junior All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) won the ACC 200-meter title with a time of 24.07 seconds while junior All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) captured the 400-meter championship with a time of 53.48 seconds.

Darden and Greggs were then joined by All-American Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) and freshman Lauren Austin (Oviedo, Fla.) to form the ACC Champion 4×400-meter relay. Miami’s relay currently ranks second in the nation.

The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark.
