Hurricanes Win Eighth Straight

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Robert Hite scored 22 points and Miami beatNorfolk State 76-58 for its eighth consecutive win Sunday.
After a sluggish start, Miami broke the game open with a 16-2 run that gavethe Hurricanes a 32-14 lead with 6:31 remaining in the first half.
Hite and guard Guillermo Diaz combined to score 12 of those 16 points. Diazfinished with 18 points, including 13 in the first half, which saw Miami take a43-30 lead behind 57.1-percent shooting.
Hite scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half, which saw the Hurricanesshoot just 38.5 percent.
But Norfolk State shot just 35.6 percent for the game and connected on only29.4 percent of its field goals in the second half.
Karandick Ogunride scored 16 points and Chakowby Hicks added 15 for NorfolkState (3-7).
The loss dropped the Spartans’ road record to 0-6.
The game was the final non-conference contest of the season for Miami. TheHurricanes begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the first timeThursday night at Georgia Tech.
