CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Robert Hite scored 18 points and Guillermo Diazadded 15 to help Miami beat Appalachian State 80-63 Thursday for its seventhconsecutive win.
Forward Gary Hamilton had a career-high 12 points and a game-high 12rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench for Miami (8-2).
Noah Brown scored 14 points for Appalachian State (5-5).
Miami broke the game open with a 20-4 run to end the first half, holdingAppalachian State scoreless for more than seven minutes.
The Hurricanes scored the first six points of the second half to take a48-24 lead, and the Mountaineers never got closer than 17 points off the leadafter that.
Miami’s guard trio of Hite, Diaz and Anthony Harris combined for 42 points,14 rebounds and 12 assists.
The Hurricanes shot 48.5 percent from the field and scored 16 fast-breakpoints. Appalachian State shot just 33.9 percent from the field, connecting onjust 9 of 31 3-point field goals.
Miami now has just a Jan. 2 game against Norfolk State before beginning playin the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hurricanes’ first ACC game will come atGeorgia Tech on Jan. 6.
