Gajos Reaches Finals at U.S. Open Championships

San Antonio, Texas – Sophomore Nancy Gajos reached the C-Final in the 200-meter butterfly on the last day of competition at the 2004 U.S. Open Championships held at the Palo Alto College Natatorium Sunday evening.
Gajos came in 20th after touching the wall with a time of 2:21.92, almost one second better than her preliminary time of 2:22.73. The Mississauga, Ontario native was the only Miami swimmer to return for finals in the three-day meet.
Fellow sophomore Tara Erwin came in 23rd place in the 800-meter freestyle event with a time of 9:14.31.
The Hurricanes will take the rest of the month off from competition. The diving team will return to action January 3rd when they travel to the University of Georgia for the Georgia Diving Invitational. The swimmers will not take to the pool until January 7th when they will host the Matt Gribble Invitational at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
