Nov. 18, 2004
Charlottesville, Va. – The second seeded University of Miami volleyball team will face Maryland in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Championships Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Memorial Gym.
The Hurricanes (16-8, 11-5 ACC) will take on the Terrapins (13-14, 7-9 ACC) for the third time this season. The season series is tied 1-1 with both matches extending to five games. Miami won the last meeting between the two teams, 3-2, in Coral Gables. Both teams will vie for a spot in Saturday’s 4:00 p.m. semi-final.
The seventh seeded Terrapins advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Wake Forest, 3-1, in the first round Thursday evening. They enter the tournament as defending champions, having captured the 2003 ACC Championship in Orlando, Fla., with a 3-1 win over Georgia Tech.
The Hurricanes are looking to capture their first-ever Atlantic Coast title in their inaugural season.
