Hurricanes Host Virgina in ACC Action

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team will welcome Virginia to the Knight Sports Complex Sunday at 1:00 pm for an ACC match-up. The Hurricanes, who defeated Maryland 3-2 Friday Night improved to 13-8 overall and 8-5 in the ACC.
The Hurricanes will face a hot Virginia team that was riding a four-match win streak before falling to Florida State in five games Friday night. The Cavaliers now hold a 17-8 overall and 7-6 ACC record.
As a team, Virginia is hitting .217 while holding opponents to a .185 hitting percentage. They are averaging 15.80 kills per game.
Leading the way for Virginia is Sarah Kirkwood who has hit 457 kills this season for a 5.13 kill per game average that also places her 16th among NCAA leaders in kills per game. Emily Kirkwood has dished out 1192 assists for the Cavaliers. Her 13.10 assists per game ranks her 25th among NCAA leaders.
Defensively Melissa Caldwell leads the team with 5.52 digs per game, good for 21st in the nation, while Alexis Geocaris has posted a team-high 119 total blocks including 20 solo blocks.
The Hurricanes defeated Virginia, 3-1, in their first-ever meeting October 8th in Charlottesville. Both teams along with Duke were in a three-way tie for third in the ACC standings before this weekend’s action.
