Hurricanes Set to Take on North Carolina Sunday Afternoon

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s volleyball team hopes to make it three in a row when they face Atlantic Coast Conference foe, North Carolina Sunday at 1:00 pm in the Knight Sports Complex.
“This match is a great opportunity for us to play a team that has established itself year-in and year-out in the ACC,” said head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch.
The Hurricanes are riding a three-game win streak where they defeated both FAU and NC State in three game sweeps. Miami improved to 9-6 in the season and 4-3 in the ACC with Friday’s win.
Senior outside hitter Ashley Youngs led all players with 12 kills in 25 attempts to go along with six digs in the win against NC State.
As a team, the Hurricanes held the Wolfpack to a .080 hitting percentage and capitalized on 22 NC State errors. Miami hit a .237 attacking percentage and recorded a match-high 50 kills, 46 assists and 43 digs.
The Hurricanes will face a North Carolina squad that sits second in the ACC standings and holds a 11-9 overall record and are 6-2 in the ACC. The Tar Heels dropped a 3-1 decision at Florida State Friday evening.
The Tar Heels are powered by Molly Pyles and Dani Nyenhuis. Pyles has 268 kills and 250 digs on the season while Nyenhuis is second in kills with 228 (3.62kpg). Defensively, Caroline deRoeck leads with 280 digs while Katie Wright has 72 total blocks.
As a team UNC is ranked first in the ACC in digs per game (17.69), as well as, sixth in both hitting percentage (.218) and kills per game (15.26kpg).
