UM, FIU Face Off Friday

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams will face off against Florida International in a dual meet this Friday, October 13 at Tropical Park in Miami, Fla.
The women’s 5K race will start at 5:35 p.m. with the men’s four mile race beginning at 6:10 p.m.
The Miami women are led by this week’s ACC Cross Country performer of the week, Melanie Schultz. The junior from Davison, Mich. placed third at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando last weekend with a time of 17:43.57 to lead the women’s cross country team to a 12th-place finish out of 32 teams.
Schultz has been the Hurricanes top finisher at all three meets this season, and in eight of the last nine races dating back to last season. She has finished in the top-3 of all three races this season including a season-opening win at the FIU Invitational.
The UM men, who placed third out of 31 teams at last weekend’s Walt Disney Cross Country Classic, has finished in the top-4 of all four meets this season including a season-opening victory at the FIU Invitational.
The Hurricanes have been led this season by junior Alex Brutvan (Boca Raton, Fla.) who has been Miami’s top finisher at every event. Brutvan was the top collegiate finisher at the FIU Invitational and has three career collegiate wins to his credit. He has been UM’s top finisher in 11 consecutive races dating back to last season.
