Cross Country Heads To Disney Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete this weekend at the ninth-annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
The event, which consisted of 67 college programs from 19 states and Canada last season, will begin with the men’s 8K race at 7:45 a.m. The women’s 5K race will follow at 8:55 a.m.
The UM women have been led by junior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) who has been the Hurricanes top finisher at both meets this season, and in seven of the last eight races dating back to last season. Schultz recorded her third career win at the season opening FIU Invitational and placed second overall at the Gator Invitational.
At last year’s Disney Classic the UM women placed eighth and were led by Schultz who finished 14th individually.
The Hurricane men’s team, ranked 15th in the South Region, has finished in the top-4 of all three meets this season including a season-opening victory at the FIU Invitational.
Junior Alex Brutvan (Boca Raton, Fla.) has been Miami’s top finisher at every event this season. Brutvan has placed in the top-four of two of the first three meets and was the top collegiate finisher at the FIU Invitational.
Last season the Hurricanes placed third at the meet with Brutvan finishing seventh overall.
