Schultz Leads Hurricanes

Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami junior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) finished second overall to lead the women’s cross country at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
Schultz, who completed the 5000-meter course in a time of 17:42.20, has been the Hurricanes top finisher at both meets this season, and in seven of the last eight races dating back to last season.
Miami recorded 291 points to place 11th out of 22 teams.
Senior Marilyn Ruiz (Hallendale, Fla.) was UM’s second best finisher placing 47th in a time of 19:47.73. Freshman DeeDee Phlatts (Silver Spring, Md.) also ran well finishing 74th (20:26.74).
The Hurricanes return to action on October 9 at the Disney Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
