Hurricanes Announce 2004-05 Women's Basketball Schedule

The University of Miami along with head coach Ferne Labati has announced the 2004-05 women’s basketball schedule that will feature 16 home games, including two tournaments hosted at the Convocation Center, and four televised games in the Hurricanes’ inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Hurricanes will be featured in regionally televised games January 2 at Florida State and January 17 at North Carolina, along with a February 2 date with NC State in Coral Gables and February 27 at Virginia Tech.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to play as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference,” Labati said. “Year-in and year-out, the ACC has proven to be one of the best conferences in the country and our schedule is going to put us in a situation to compete with some of the best teams in the nation.”
Miami’s 2004-05 slate will include eight teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2003-04, including defending ACC Champions Duke.
The Hurricanes will also play games in seven different states in 2004-05 as part of a 12-game road tilt.
UM host two exhibition games November 3 and 13, before opening up the season with Gardner Webb November 19 in the opening round of the Miami Jam. The Hurricanes return November 21, playing in either the championship or consolation game against UCLA or TCU.
Following a November 23 contest with Hartford in West Hartford, Conn., Miami heads to Brooklyn, N.Y. November 26-27 to take part in the LIU Turkey Classic featuring Oregon, Maryland-Eastern Shore and host Long Island.
The Hurricanes take on George Mason November 30 in Fairfax, Va. and open the month of December with cross-town rival Florida International (Dec. 4) at Golden Panther Arena.
Two days later, UM faces a Texas Tech (Dec. 6) team, who finished the 2003-04 season ranked 17th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, in Lubbock, Texas.
UM returns to Coral Gables for a home date with Central Florida December 13 and Montana December 20 before taking on Fairfield December 28 in the opening round of the UM Holiday Classic and Loyola Marymount or Hofstra the following day to close out the month of December.
The 2004-05 non-conference schedule concludes with a January 2 game with Coppin State.
Miami opens the ACC conference schedule traveling to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on intra-state rival Florida State before games with Wake Forest (Jan. 13), at North Carolina (Jan. 17), at NC State (Jan. 20) and Georgia Tech (Jan. 23).
UM wraps up the season with games against Florida State (Jan. 27), at Clemson (Jan. 31), Duke (Feb. 3), Virginia Tech (Feb. 6), at Virginia (Feb. 10), NC State (Feb. 14), Maryland (Feb. 17), at Duke (Feb. 24) and at Virginia Tech (Feb. 27).
The 2005 ACC Championships will take place March 4-7 in Greensboro, N.C.
