Aug. 6, 2004
Erie, Penn. (hurricanesports.com) –
University of Miami senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) will compete at the 2004 US Women’s Amateur Championship beginning on Monday, August 9 at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The Kahkwa Club is a Donald Ross designed course. It will play at 6,356 yards and is a par-72.
Miller is scheduled to tee-off Monday at <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>7:40 a.m. Her playing partners the first two days will be Michelle Doyle (Lagrange, Ga.) and Jennifer Osborn (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Miller gained entrance into the Championship by virtue of her qualifying for the US Women’s Open earlier this summer.
In USGA Championships there are two days of stroke play to determine which of the 156 competitors will advance to the 64-player match play competition. Match play competition will begin on August 11. The match play qualifiers will be seeded by their finish in the stroke play competition.
Miller was the Hurricanes top finisher in six tournaments this season and posted a team-best 75.7 stroke average. She recorded two tournament victories this past season and registered six other top ten finishes.
Miller is no stranger to USGA competition. Earlier this summer she competed at the US Women’s Open in South Hadley, Mass., and in 2003 she reached the third round of match play competition at the US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in Palm Coast, Fla.
