Bounds Places Fifth in Synchronized Platform Finals at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman diver Heather Bounds (Austin, Texas) paired with Ashley Bourland to finish fifth in the finals of the women’s synchronized platform with a score of 417.69 Thursday afternoon at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials held at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.
Bounds and high school teammate Bourland recorded a mark of 417.69 on five dives in Thursday’s finals after placing fourth in the preliminaries Wednesday with a score of 212.07.
Former Hurricane diver Kyle Prandi earned an automatic invitation to the U.S. Olympic Team Thursday after teaming with 2000 Olympian Mark Ruiz to take first place in the men’s synchronized platform finals with a score of 703.98, 57 points ahead of second place.
The 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials will continue Friday with the men’s 3-meter springboard finals and resumes Saturday with the women’s 3-meter finals followed by the men’s platform finals.
