Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team fell three spots to No. 10 in the latest Trackwire25 rankings released Tuesday.

Miami is preparing for the NCAA East Regional Championships, May 28-29, in Gainesville, Fla. The Hurricanes have had 15 student-athletes record 26 regional qualifying marks in 11 different events.

Miami, which captured its fourth consecutive BIG EAST Outdoor Championship earlier this season, has been led by junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who has the fastest time in the world this season in the 100-meters (11.01) and the fourth fastest mark in the 200-meters (22.46).

Williams was named the 2004 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 100-meters and 200-meters, and running the second leg of the BIG EAST Champion 4×100-meter relay at the conference championships.

Miami had a total of six event champions at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships including sophomore All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) who captured the BIG EAST 400-meter hurdle title (57.84) and freshman All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) who won the triple jump with a BIG EAST Championship record leap of 13.42 meters (44-00.50).

Miami’s 4×100-meter relay of junior Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.), Williams, Darden and sophomore India Ransom (Largo, Md.) won the BIG EAST Championship for the second straight season.

The 4×400-meter relay of junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas), freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central), junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) and senior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) won for the third consecutive season.

Miami enters the NCAA East Regional with arguably the top group of jumpers in the nation. The Hurricanes have qualified five jumpers in the long jump and four jumpers in the triple jump.

Charles, who earned All-America in both the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships, has qualified in both events for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Others qualifying in both events include freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas), who earned All-America honors in the long jump at NCAA Indoors, and freshman Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.). Davis and Amber Williams have qualified in the long jump, while Carter, the defending East Regional triple jump champion, qualified in the triple jump.
