Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the Georgia Tech Invitational, May 14-15, at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Facility on the campus of Georgia Tech University. The meet will be the final competition prior to the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships, May 28-29, in Gainesville, Fla.

The Miami men enter the meet having qualified one individual and one relay for the NCAA East Regional Championships.

Senior Aaron Dolores (Mill Valley, Calif.) has qualified in the long jump with a mark of 7.41 meters (24-03.75) at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Dolores’ leap ranks 16th in the region and 54th in the nation.

The men’s 4×100-meter relay has also qualified. The team of freshman Devin Hester (Riviera Beach, Fla.), sophomore Darnell Jenkins (Miami Central), sophomore Travarous Bain (Miami Northwestern) and sophomore Akieem Jola (New Orleans, La.) posted a qualifying time of 40.57 seconds at the Penn Relays. Their time ranks 12th in the region and 39th in the nation.

The seventh ranked UM women have already had 15 student-athletes record 25 regional qualifying marks in 11 different events.

The Miami women have been led this season by junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who has the fastest time in the world this season in the 100-meters (11.01) and the second fastest mark in the 200-meters (22.46).

Williams was named the 2004 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 100-meters and 200-meters, and running the second leg of the BIG EAST Champion 4×100-meter relay at the conference championships.

Miami had a total of six event champions at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships including sophomore All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) who captured the BIG EAST 400-meter hurdle title (57.84) and freshman All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) who won the triple jump with a BIG EAST Championship record leap of 13.42 meters (44-00.50).

Miami’s 4×100-meter relay of junior Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.), Williams, Darden and sophomore India Ransom (Largo, Md.) won the BIG EAST Championship for the second straight season.

The 4×400-meter relay of junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas), freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central), junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) and senior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) won for the third consecutive season.
