Women's Track Ranked Sixth In Nation

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team moved up one spot to No. 6 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings released Tuesday.
Miami is led by junior Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who has the fastest times in the world this season in both 100-meters (11.01) and 200-meters (22.46). Williams is coming off a victory in the 100-meters at the 2004 Penn Relays.
Freshman phenom Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) won the triple jump title at last weekend’s Penn Relays and currently ranks second in the nation in the triple jump (13.43 meters/44-00.75) and third in the nation in long jump (6.35 meters/20-10.00).
Sophomore Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) ranks seventh in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles (57.24) and is a NCAA regional qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles. In only her third career race in the 400-meter hurdles she set the school-record in event. Darden is also a member of the Hurricanes’ fourth-ranked 4×100-meter relay.
Joining Darden and Williams on the Hurricanes’ on the relay are junior Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.) and sophomore India Ransom (Largo, Md.). Ransom has also qualified for NCAA Regional competition in the 100-meters.
Miami’s 4×400-meter relay has also performed well this season and currently ranks fourth in the nation. The team consists of junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas), sophomore Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern), senior Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) and freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central). Greggs, Etienne and Moore have all recorded NCAA Regional qualifying marks.
UM’s jumping corps have been very impressive this season. The Hurricanes have qualified five long jumpers and four triple jumpers for NCAA Regional competition.
In addition the Charles, freshmen Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) and Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) have recorded regional qualifying marks in both the long jump and triple jump.Carter, the defending East Regional Champion in the triple jump, ranks sixth in the nation (13.28 meters/43-07.00) and second in the East Region to Charles. Davis and junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) have also qualified in the long jump. Williams is also a NCAA Regional Qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the shot put, senior Adrienne Moss has posted an NCAA Regional qualifying mark (15.04 meters/49-04.25).
Miami travels to the BIG EAST Championship this weekend in Piscataway, N.J. The Hurricanes are attempting to win their fourth consecutive outdoor championship and the sixth in the last seven seasons.
