Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team will be the top-seed at the BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship, April 24-25, in Notre Dame, IN.
The remaining three teams competing will be host and No. 2 seed Notre Dame, third-seeded Boston College and fourth-seeded Georgetown.
The 54-hole event will be held at the par-71, 6,744-yard Warren Golf Course. The first and second rounds will be played on April 24, with the final round taking place on April 25.
The University of Miami women’s golf team is ranked 47th by Golfweek.com and finished in the top-5 of all nine tournaments this season including a victory at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, March 8-9. The win was Miami’s first since the fall of 1998.
Miami has been led this season by junior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) who has recorded seven top-10s this season including two victories. She won the Cougar Classic, September 15-16, and the Beacon Woods Invitational, October 10-12 during the fall season. She finished in a tie for first at last season’s BIG EAST Championship coming from five stokes down over the final nine holes to tie for the title. Miller currently leads the team with a 75.9 stroke average.
Freshman Tiffany Prats has also been impressive this season recording three top-10s. Her 76.3 stroke average this spring is best on the team while her 77.7 stroke average on the season ranks third. She has been Miami’s top finisher in two events this spring.
Seniors Camilla Hilland and Jazmin Cataldo give UM a very deep lineup. Hilland has three top-10s and has finished in the top-20 of four other events this season. Her 77.1 stroke average ranks second on the squad. Cataldo has a 78.3 stroke average this season, but has been one of the Hurricanes’ most consistent players this spring finishing among the top-3 Hurricanes in all four tournaments.
