Bounds Wraps Up Synchronized Platform Finals at 2004 Speedo American Cup

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami freshman Heather Bounds (Austin, Texas) paired up with Ohio State’s Ashley Bourland for a fifth place finish in the women’s synchronized platform finals Thursday at the 2004 Speedo American Cup in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Speedo American Cup is the final event for American divers to qualify for a spot at this year’s U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Bounds and Bourland placed fifth with a mark of 221.34 in Thursday’s finals. Laura Wilkinson and Kimiko Soldati took the top spot with a score of 287.10.

Former UM diver Kyle Prandi paired with 2000 Olympian Mark Ruiz to claim first place in the men’s synchronized platform finals with a score of 326.28.

The Speedo American Cup continues Friday with the women’s three-meter springboard finals and the men’s platform. Preliminaries are set to begin at 11 a.m. with the finals starting at 7 p.m.
