Davis Wins BIG EAST Championship

Syracuse, N.Y. (hurricanesports.com) – Miami junior Tanard Davis (Miami Southridge) led a 1-2-3 Hurricane sweep of the 60-meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championship in Syracuse, N.Y.
Davis finished in a time of 6.78 seconds to win his first BIG EAST Indoor Championship. Davis’ victory marks the third consecutive season in which a Hurricane has won the BIG EAST 60-meter title.
Sophomore Terrell Walden (Miami Edison), last year’s BIG EAST 60-meter Champion, took second in a photo finish. Walden set a BIG EAST Championship record with a time of 6.76 in the preliminaries but was out-leaned at the tape by Davis. Walden’s time in the final was also 6.78 seconds.
Walden also scored in the 200-meters finishing sixth in a time of 22.25 seconds.
Freshman Devin Hester (Riviera Beach, Fla.), who won the BIG EAST long jump title on Saturday, took third in the 60-meters with a time of 6.82 seconds.
