Santaella Sante, Tipiana Receive Post-Season BIG EAST Accolades

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Senior outside hitter Leyre Santaella Sante and junior outside hitter Valeria Tipiana were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team on Friday night at the conference post-season awards banquet.

Santaella Sante, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, leads the Hurricanes with 422 kills on the season and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 4.02 kills per game. The junior is also tops on the Hurricanes’ roster with 41 services aces on the season. She turned in a personal-best as a Hurricane this season, posting 21 kills in a 3-2 win over Syracuse on Nov. 7.

Tipiana is second on the Hurricanes’ roster with 321 kills on the year, averaging 3.82 per game. The Lima, Peru native ranks tenth in the BIG EAST with a .310 hitting percentage and is second on the team with 2.46 digs per game.

Santaella Sante and Tipiana will look to lead the Hurricanes against No. 17 Notre Dame on Saturday at the BIG EAST Championships. Miami’s match with the Irish is scheduled for 3:30 pm in South Bend.
