Women's Golf Nabs Three Recruits

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Head women’s golf coach Lela Cannon announces the signing of Mandy Fricton (Merritt Island High School/Merritt Island, Fla.) and Hagen Weintraub (Western High School/Davie, Fla.) to national letters of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall. In addition, Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) a transfer from the University of North Carolina has signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Hurricanes next season.

“I am extremely pleased with this year’s recruiting class,” said Cannon. “They are all great additions to the University of Miami golf program.”

Fricton has been the runner-up at the Class 2A District Championships the last two seasons and this summer qualified for match-play at the 2003 USGA Girls Junior Amateur.

Weintraub is also a two-time runner-up at the Class 2A District Championships. In 2002 she finished third at the Class 2A State Championships leading Western High School to its first State title in any sport.

Shinn competed in four fall tournaments last season for the Tar Heels registering a 77.08 stroke average. As a prep, Shinn played at Pinecrest High School earning All-State honors three times and capturing the North Carolina High School State Championship in 2001.
