BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Field Set

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami will take on Notre Dame in the opening round of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 in South Bend, Ind.

Miami (22-8, 9-3 BIG EAST) clinched a spot as the No. 3 seed after downing Virginia Tech, 3-0 on Saturday night in Coral Gables.

Pittsburgh edged out Notre Dame, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to split the 2003 BIG EAST regular season title with the Irish. With the win over Notre Dame, the Panthers secured their spot as the No. 1 seed and pushed Notre Dame in to the No. 2 spot. Villanova will play as the No. 4 seed.

The Hurricanes advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game in 2002, overtaking the Hokies, 3-2 in the opening round before falling to Notre Dame, 3-1 in the Championship match.

The winner of the BIG EAST Championship receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2003 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

Saturday’s match with the Irish is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
