CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Volleyball team will return to action this weekend, taking to the road to face BIG EAST opponents Connecticut and St. John’s.
The Hurricanes (16-5, 5-0 BIG EAST) will look to bounce back after a disappointing 3-2 loss on Tuesday night against in-state foe Florida A&M, ending an eight-match win streak.
Miami is currently tied with Pittsburgh for second place in the BIG EAST standings and have started conference play 5-0 for the first time in school history. UM has streaked through BIG EAST opponents thus far, dropping only one game in five matches.
“We are really excited about getting back into the BIG EAST schedule,” Head Coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “UConn has been a powerhouse in the BIG EAST year in and year out, so they are always tough. St. John’s has one of the best players in the league in Jackie Ahlers. These two teams are going to be tough and we are excited about the competition.”
The Hurricanes (13-10, 1-4 BIG EAST) will face UConn on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. UM leads the series with the Huskies after downing Connecticut, 3-0 last season in Coral Gables.
UConn snapped a four-match losing streak last week with wins over Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas-Pan American. The Huskies currently sit in 10th place in the BIG EAST with a 1-4 record.
Miami will travel to Jamaica, N.Y. on Sunday, Oct. 26 to take on the Red Storm (21-6, 3-2 BIG EAST) at 2 p.m. UM holds a 1-0 lead on the series with St. John’s, taking SJU 3-0 last season in Coral Gables.
SJU currently sit behind the Hurricanes at fourth place in the BIG EAST after downing UConn, 3-0 last week. SJU’s only conference losses came at the hands of BIG EAST leader Notre Dame and second place Pittsburgh.
