Cross Country Travels To Stetson

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action on Friday, October 17 at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, FL.
The event will start at 4:30 p.m. with the men’s 8,000-meter run, followed by the women’s 5,000-meter run at 5:30 p.m. The field includes Eckerd, Embry-Riddle, Edward Waters, Flagler, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Florida Tech, Jacksonville, Lynchburg (VA), Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic, Rollins, Stetson, UCF, Warner Southern, and Webber International.
Led by sophomore Alex Brutvan (Boca Raton, FL), the UM men’s team has won two of the first four meets of the season and are currently ranked 12th in the South Region.
Brutvan has been the Hurricanes’ top finisher every race this season including a first-place finish at the FIU Invitational (Sept. 13). He has recorded three top-10 finishes and was the top collegiate finisher at the season-opening Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Invitational (Aug. 30). At last weekend’s Disney Invitational, Brutvan placed seventh out of 260 runners to lead UM to a third-place finish.
The Hurricane women have been led this season by sophomore Melanie Schultz (Davison, MI) who has exploded on the scene with victories in the first two meets of the season. Her performances have helped Miami record second-place finishes at both the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Invitational as well as the FIU Invitational. Last weekend Schultz finished 14th out of 289 runners at the Disney Invitational.
