CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Volleyball team will try to remain undefeated in BIG EAST play this season as they host conference foes Georgetown and Villanova this weekend at the Knight Sports Complex.

Miami will also attempt to further their unbeaten streak to nine matches in BIG EAST play at home and remain perfect in BIG EAST play in Coral Gables.

Head Coach Nicole Lantagne Welch has never lost a home co

Miami will look to the play of outside hitters Valeria Tipiana and Leyre Santaella Sante, who have combined for 87 total kills in conference play this season. Tipiana, a junior from Lima, Peru leads the Hurricanes with 250 kill on the season. Senior Santaella Sante, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, paces Miami with 21 service aces on the year.

The Hurricanes (13-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) will square off with Georgetown (6-12, 1-3 BIG EAST) on Friday night at 7 p.m. Last season, the Hoyas handed Miami their first BIG EAST loss of the season with a 3-2 win over the Hurricanes in Washington, D.C.

“I think our team is excited about playing Georgetown,” Head Coach Lantagne Welch said, “especially since we didn’t finish the match last season like we would have liked. It should be a great volleyball match and there should be some exciting plays.”

Miami will host Villanova (4-12, 1-3 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Miami leads the series, 1-0 after downing the Wildcats, 3-0 last season in the two schools only meeting. Villanova will travel to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech on Friday, Oct. 10 prior to facing the Hurricanes.

“Villanova is a very scrappy team,” Coach Lantagne Welch said. “They have challenged everyone they have played this season and we expect their best.”
