Greggs, Carter Win Regional Championships

Fairfax, VA (hurricanesports.com) – Freshman All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) claimed the 400-meter title and junior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) won the triple jump to lead the University of Miami women’s track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships in Fairfax, VA.
Greggs, who won the 400-meters with a school-record time of 51.65, and Carter, who recorded a personal-best mark of 13.11 meters (43-00.25), led a group of six UM individuals and two relays that qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 11-14, in Sacramento, CA.
Sophomore All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-meters posting a school-record time of 11.20 seconds. Williams, who finished second in the Regional final, is attempting to become the first Hurricanes’ sprinter to earn All-America honors in the 100-meters in consecutive seasons.
Williams and Greggs also qualified for the NCAA Championships as members of the 4×100-meter relay. The relay of Williams, Greggs, freshman All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, PA) and senior All-America Sashanie Simpson finished second in a time of 44.06 seconds.
Senior All-Americans Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes), Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) also qualified for the NCAA Championships in their respective events.
Lawson, a two-time BIG EAST Champion, qualified for the NCAA Championships with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Lawson recorded a personal-best time of 13.25 seconds. Wade finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (57.74) while Pearson took fourth in the 800-meters with a season-best time of 2:05.78.
The Hurricanes’ 4×400-meter relay also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The foursome of Simpson, Wade, sophomore Wiande Moore (Spring, TX) and Darden finished third with a time of 3:35.70.
